5 THINGS I'VE LEARNED SINCE LOSING A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WEIGHT

5 THINGS I'VE LEARNED SINCE LOSING A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WEIGHT

5 things I've learned since losing a significant amount of weight

1. You will have supporters and haters

- This is the number 1 because as much as people say they want to see you do great, they want you to be healthy and happy etc. But when they actual see it,some people will either support it or snub it and your biggest snubbers will be the people closest to you, believe or not, and your biggest supporters may be people you don't even know! I've had so many shady comments and opinions I can't even tell you. But I've also had so many congratulations and great jobs!! You have to stay positive and not let people's opinion deter you from your own personal goals. Because weight loss is a personal choice! I can't say it enough times! Whether you do it naturally or have help like I did! It's all on you! Remember to keep your head up. Don't mind what people are saying! and do you boo, because if you don't do it, then who will.

2. People will treat you differently

- It's crazy because I always heard people say this but it wasn't until now that I truly understood it. People will treat you differently. You'll have a few "MIKE JONES" moments (back then they didn't want me now I'm hot they all on me)  They will either be nastier or nicer. Women in particular have been nastier and men in particular have been nicer. I've had women stare me up and down like who did it and why and I've had men look at me like oh my Goodness your absolutely gorgeous! Can I drink your bath water?. Literally had a guy have his mom try to flag me down at a fashion show I went to recently. (Highly favored fashions of Decatur al, check them out.) .(def completely ignored him, he was doing way too much, pretended like I didn't see either of them). Had another guy pay for my friends and I full tab drinks and all. I'm not saying all this to brag or anything I'm just saying it to prove my point that people will treat you differently. No one can prepare you for the amount of attention you get. To be honest sometimes it's a little uncomfortable but I'm learning to deal with it. Because I am putting my transformation out for the world to see.

3. Shopping is easier

-Shopping has become way easier because now I'm apart of 80% of the store instead of 20% and There is more of a selection to choose from. l honestly wish they made the same clothes in plus size as they do in regular women's sizes. the only companies I see do that are Charlotte Russe and forever21. That's where I would always shop to get clothes when I was plus size and they were trendy and I didn't feel like a grandma. I can fit into most mediums. My go to styles are rompers and dresses because I've shaped into this pear shape and it's hard to dress unless it's jeans and t shirts which I wear a 10 on bottom and like a small medium on top. But it's definitely easier because I can kinda grab and go.

4. Weight loss is a struggle

-Weight loss is like a roller coaster. It fluctuates, makes you go up and down and round and round. Some days are better than others. Some days I look in the mirror and still see a 286lb Harper and some days I see a fabulous 193lb Harper. It happens, it's life and I take it day by day! Sometimes I nitpick about my arms or my squishy stomach etc etc. I could go on and on. But we all deal with insecurities sometimes. Just don't make it an all the time thing. Some days I don't want to go to the gym or I step on the scale and haven't lost any weight and I'm bummed. But I continue to do what's necessary because for every negative there are 10 positives. I may loss inches and not weight. So those are wins in themselves. Sometimes I want a burger and let me tell you lol,  I have a burger. (Five guys will wrap any burger in a lettuce wrap, so it's technically not cheating because it's no bread, you're welcome) it's a balance and you just gotta learn to balance it out. 90% of the time I do try my best to eat healthy but I allow myself to indulge occasionally.

5. Quality of life

I didn't realize how losing weight could affect my quality of life in such a positive way! I have so much more energy to do the things I've always wanted to do like more physical activity. My ankles no longer swell to the point I cant see them after standing all day. I don't stay sick for months at a time like I used to. I'm no longer Hot all the time, I'm cold now. I want to go rock climbing, bungee jumping, zip lining, snowboarding, and skydiving. All these things require a certain level of physical activity which I can now do without feeling out of breath or deathly uncomfortable! I didn't realize how uncomfortable I was until I lost the weight. Which may sound a bit weird but *shrugs* it's how I feel.

You are so right about snubbets being those closest to you…overcoming that non support for any goals not just weight takes strength.
